Credit counselling is a type of lecture involving the provision of useful tips and lessons on how to avoid or manage debt through proper budgeting and financial management. Most financial experts and organizations recommend credit counseling for all consumers but the people who really need to undergo credit counseling are the people with bad credit ratings.

Bad credit ratings refer to the unfavorable credit scores that are caused by defaults, debts, foreclosures, or bankruptcy. People with bad credit ratings find difficulty when it comes to applying for a new savings account or a new mortgage loan. Bad credit ratings can be avoided through the responsible accomplishment of financial obligations and the proper management of money. Here are some of the indications that a person needs to seek financial help:

    Lack of budget list.

One of the simplest indications that a person needs to seek financial help is his lack of a budget list. A budget list is a written document that enumerates a person's anticipated expenses. The preparation of a budget list is one of the most effective ways of managing finances. A budget list helps the person in allocating the amount of money that needs to be spent on important things such as food, transportation, and other bills. Lack of budgeting may also lead to impulsive buying. One example of the harmful effect of impulsive buying to a person's budget is using the money intended to pay for electric bills to purchase the lovely pair of heels on the display window.

    Accumulation of debt.

People with bad credit ratings usually experience financial difficulties because of the accumulation of debt. Debt refers to the amount of money that the borrower owes the lender. The accumulated debt may be in the form of unpaid credit card bills, unpaid mortgage balance, or unpaid house rent.
